A Proscenium Curtain is also known as Grand Drape, Front Curtain, Main Curtain, Act Curtain, and House Curtain.
It is used as a sight and sound barrier between the audience and stage; it enhances the beauty of the place and it is the focus point for the audience before a performance.
Available in different styles and finishes, this is the most used curtain on a stage.
Masking curtains are typically behind the proscenium curtains (up-stage) and as the name implies, their purpose is to “mask” or hide stage equipment, stage lighting and off-stage areas. These curtains also help absorb light and when manufactured out of a rich napped fabric, they can help control sound reverberation. At the same time side masking panels or mid-stage travelers help adjust the size of the stage platform and are frequently used to create lateral entry ways to the stage.
Stage "drops" and “cycs” are used as scenic elements. Backdrops can be made from a uniform color and be used for projecting or lighting effects, or they can also be painted or digitally printed to become part of the stage scenery and set the mood of a performance. The most common elements are a Sharkstooth Scrim backdrop or Muslin backdrop.
